The second-largest city of Cyprus - port Limassol, it is in a southeast part of the island, it is less than hour of driving from the airport of Larnaca and hardly more if you have landed in Paphos. The population of city is about 160 thousand inhabitants. Surprisingly quiet, even it is possible to tell sleepy people :-)
This city is a large economic, trading and tourist center of the country and also is the main seaport and center of the international business. In general city remarkable combines historical attributes of cultural center and modern brisk resort. Here there are all conditions for good vacation - modern hotels, restaurants, cafe, discos, night clubs, a small zoo. This resort is perfect for fans of active vacation.
Limassol is called a city of festivals and conferences. Every autumn within approximately ten days (from September, 2 till September, 14th) here passes the festival of winegrowing and the winemaking, devoted to the God Dionysus. It is a compact city; the majority of sights are not so far apart from each other.
So, that here it is possible to see: the Museum of history of Middle Ages where coins are presented to your attention, utensils, vases, the weapon, armors, bronze goods, faience. An archeological museum. Here are presented also some goods from the bronze age - potter's and clay products, vases, figurines.
Folklore Museum, Municipal Gallery of Art and Municipal Park. In vicinities of city to the west, is located a medieval castle Kolossi. In an hour of driving from the city there are mountains Troodos. In five km to the west - ruins of ancient Kurion. Here there are no a lot of tourists as in Paphos or Ayia Napa, but it has also its advantages - it is possible to reserve a room or to rent cyprus villas even in peak season - August. Also is very convenient, that beside there is a port and it is possible to go in cruise to Egypt or Greece.
